Tyson is an Investing Partner at GV (formerly Google Ventures), where he invests broadly in enterprise technology companies, with a focus on the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to enterprise use cases. Prior to joining GV, Tyson was a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, where he was on the corporate development team and advised enterprise portfolio companies on a range of strategic topics. Before that, he led acquisitions in the enterprise SaaS space for Oracle’s corporate development group, and worked as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley, where he oversaw IPO and M&A transactions for a variety of cloud companies. Before embarking on his career in business, Tyson spent six years in the United States Navy, serving on fast attack submarines as both a nuclear propulsion officer and Navy scuba diver.
Tyson holds a BS in industrial engineering from Stanford, with Honors, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He also serves as a board member for ReSurge International, a nonprofit that seeks to heal people in developing countries who suffer from physically debilitating injuries or congenital abnormalities. ReSurge provides access to reconstructive surgical care by deploying US based medical teams abroad, and also by training local medical teams in underserved countries to perform complicated surgical procedures.
