With over 30 years experience, Susan is a finance veteran in pre-commercial alternate energy / clean technology companies and is both a US CPA and a Canadian chartered professional accountant (CPA, CA). Prior to joining Carbon Engineering, she held positions of CFO at General Fusion (nuclear fusion) and Vaperma (membrane technology for ethanol dehydration), and VP Finance and CFO at Cellex Power Products (fuel cells for lift truck applications). Susan was part of the executive team that sold Cellex to Plug Power, and a key player in the subsequent integration of the operations.
From Cellex through to General Fusion, Susan was a core team member on equity financings totaling $130M, raising funds from North American, European and International investors, in addition to accessing a broad range of provincial, federal and US non-dilutive funding. Susan has a wealth of experience in working through the challenges faced by deep technology start-ups.
Susan Koch was the Chief Financial Officer of Carbon Engineering Ltd. from 2015 to 2019. Carbon Engineering is leading the commercialization of ground-breaking technology that captures carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere, and a second technology that synthesizes it into clean, affordable transportation fuels. In 2019 Carbon Engineering raised US$68M for commercial development. In 2020 Susan became the Chief Operating Officer and VP Accounting to focus on growing out the company’s operational capabilities.
In addition to being a CPA, Susan holds a BA in Economics and a Licentiate in Accounting from UBC. She is an avid reader and library supporter, and was a Trustee of the Richmond Public Library from 2011- 2018.
