Mike Begin is a director and former chair, president and CEO of Spartan Controls, a leader in process control technology and automation solutions, and one of Canada’s Best Managed Private Companies for over 18 years. Mike is also an entrepreneur and technology startup company investor; fellow and associate with Creative Destruction Labs – Rockies; advisor to multiple startups; advisor to Schulich School of Engineering at University Calgary; and director Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. Past executive business and board roles include VP marketing and sales worldwide for Emerson’s systems and solutions organization helping lead the launch of market changing disruptive technology; business leadership roles for Asia Pacific and Canada; governor and executive committee director – Canadian Energy Executive’s Association; board chair, strategic committee founding chair, director – Emerson NA Strategic Growth Partners; and vice chair, director – NA Measurement, Control and Automation Association. Mike was also past chair, governor – Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and has been highly engaged in company and personal support of many post-secondary initiatives and programs across western Canada that includes U of C, UBC, U of A, SAIT, NAIT, BCIT, SIAST, Keyano, and other regional colleges. He has also been active in community support including the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, United Way, Alberta Children’s Hospital, STARS, Dennehy Foundation, Canadian Blood Services, Corporate Challenge, as well as coaching competitive level sports. His education includes a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, Electrical Engineering with Management Science – University of Waterloo; Honourary Bachelor of Science degree – SAIT; Director Designation (ICD.D) – Institute of Corporate Directors; and Honourary Bachelor of Technology degree – NAIT.
