After a decade working in healthcare in emerging markets, Joel is convinced that the combination of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship will play a definitive role solving many of the world’s most pressing and complicated healthcare challenges.
Joel is a new Partner at iGan Partners, one of Canada’s largest and most active healthcare VCs. Formerly, Joel was a career consultant with PwC & Monitor Group and have led a healthcare development company focused on the markets & challenges of the Middle East & Africa.
Joel wants to help deploy new technologies, services and business models to improve population health. He is particularly optimistic about telehealth; imaging; point-of-care diagnostics; IoT; and AI, ML; NLP enabled care, which will be key to delivering truly ‘Universal Healthcare’.
Personally, he is an active investor, champion or director of several Canadian healthcare start-ups including Perimeter Medical Imaging, CyclicaRX, Peraso and GEO.
He has a degree in Politics & Economics from Dalhousie University in Canada and an MBA from the University of Cambridge in the UK. He graduated from the Global Health Leadership Program at UC Berkeley School of Public Health and the Innovating Health for Tomorrow (IHT) executive education program at INSEAD. He now lives in Toronto with his wife and children.
