Jamie is currently a Partner at Steelhead Peak, where he works with Series Seed to Series C companies looking to raise capital or build strategic partnerships. He has a diverse range of experience in raising capital, building and leading multidisciplinary teams, creative finance and partnerships, corporate governance, company operations, and building companies and products from the ground up.

Prior to Steelhead Peak, Jamie Knowlton co-founded Better Place Forests, a green, customer-centric and tech-enabled alternative to the $25B funeral industry known for its universally poor customer experience. During his time there, he raised over $55 million in venture capital, culminating in the closing of their Series B in early 2020 before deciding to step away to begin a new chapter.

Before Better Place Forests, Jamie was a Vice President at Brookfield Financial, the investment banking arm of Brookfield Asset Management, where he was responsible for originating, developing and financing large infrastructure and renewable energy projects, as well as M&A advisory in the real estate sector. During his time there he successfully raised capital for transactions totaling over $5 billion.

Jamie has a successful track record of running fundraising processes ranging from early stage to multi-billion dollar wind and infrastructure projects, and his favorite thing about startups is the challenge of figuring out innovative new business models and creative ways to finance them, and how to effectively articulate a company’s story.

Jamie is a CFA Charterholder and holds a M.Sc. City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a B.Sc. Civil Engineering and B.A. Economics from Queen’s University. Jamie lives in San Francisco with his wife, and loves to spend time outdoors racing bikes, surfing, skiing and hiking. Jamie also writes an email newsletter, In The Know, where he shares his thoughts every other Friday on how to live better through healthy habits, mindfulness, and greater awareness of the world around us.
