Dennis Kavelman is the Chief Operating Officer at Desire2Learn, a global leader in cloud-based (SaaS) learning solutions. Before joining Desire2Learn, Dennis served as the CFO and Co-COO at Research In Motion.As a key member of the senior executive team at RIM, he oversaw RIM’s growth from 20 to over 15,000 employees and from $2 million to over $15 billion in revenue as BlackBerry created and shaped the wireless data and smartphone industry globally. Prior to joining RIM in March 1995, Dennis held various positions in the corporate finance group at KPMG. Dennis is currently treasurer of the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo. Dennis is a Chartered Accountant and finished first in Canada on the CICA Uniform Final Examination. He holds an Honors Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. Dennis has also completed the Director’s Education Program at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He was selected as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2005. Dennis is an avid golfer and serves on the Governor’s Council of the Royal Canadian Golf Association. Dennis is a Founding Partner of the Creative Destruction Lab.
