Benjamin Alarie is a law professor, author and entrepreneur. As a full-time academic he holds the Osler Chair in Business Law at the University of Toronto and is an affiliated faculty member at the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence. As an entrepreneur, he is founder and CEO of Blue J, a legal technology company that is committed to leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to bring clarity to the law. As an academic researcher, he has published dozens of academic articles in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored several books. Since 2021, Alarie has had a regular column in Tax Notes in which he uses machine-learning to deeply analyze pending and recently decided American tax cases. Among his books are several editions of a leading legal text on tax law (LexisNexis), a study of the institutional constraints on judicial decision-making on national supreme courts (Oxford University Press, 2017) and The Legal Singularity (University of Toronto Press, 2023). Alarie lives in Toronto with his wife and two daughters.
