After a decade working in healthcare in emerging markets, Joel Finlayson is convinced that the combination of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship will play a definitive role solving some of the world’s most pressing and complicated healthcare challenges.

Joel is a partner at iGan, one of Canada’s largest and most active healthcare VCs and he leads the ‘revenue and growth’ team at Think Research, a clinical decision support company owned by iGan.

Joel was previously a career consultant with PwC & Monitor Group and led a healthcare development company focused on the markets and challenges of the Middle East and Africa.

Joel wants to help identify, develop and deploy new technologies, services and business models to improve population health and is optimistic about telehealth, remote care and monitoring, point-of-care diagnostics, IoT and AI supported care, which will be key to delivering truly ‘universal healthcare’.

Personally, he is an active investor, champion or director of several Canadian healthcare start-ups, including Perimeter Medical Imaging, Moleculight, CyclicaRX, Peraso, GEO and others.

He has a degree in politics and economics from Dalhousie University in Canada, an MBA from the University of Cambridge and completed the Global Health Leadership Program at UC Berkeley School of Public Health and the Innovating Health for Tomorrow (IHT) programs at INSEAD. He now lives in Toronto with his wife and children.
