Christiaan de Koning

Christiaan’s areas of expertise include venture formation, the biotech industry, and innovation and technology strategy.

His work focuses on emergent technologies and the development of ventures to scale their applications, such as translating innovations from an academic laboratory into standardised products, services, and organisations.

Christiaan holds a DPhil (PhD) from the Saïd Business School where he researched the commercialisation of the genome editing platform CRISPR. Prior to his doctorate, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Science, Innovation and Society (InSIS) in their BioProperty Research Group. He obtained an MPhil in the sociology of science & technology and a BA from Maastricht University.

Christiaan is actively involved with several entrepreneurship initiatives. He runs ‘Founders & Funders’, an international community and digital event series that brings notable alumni, experts, and funders in conversation with researchers and executive students at the coalface of science and business. He has been an advisor to a variety of parties, including governing bodies such as the House of Lords’ Science and Technology Select Committee, the European Commission, news outlets, and enjoys working with life science start-ups and accelerators.
