Venture Manager - Health

Overview

CDL-Toronto is currently hiring Venture Managers to join the Creative Destruction Lab. CDL-Toronto has seven streams – Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Health, Matter (Advanced Materials), Prime (General), Quantum and Space.

The Creative Destruction Lab (CDL), is a not for profit organisation that delivers an objectives-based program for massively scalable, seed stage, science- and technology-based companies. The program has created more than $7.5B in equity, targeting ventures that have the potential to transform our social, industrial and economic landscape. Founded at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management in 2012, there are now nine CDL programs based at leading business schools globally. 

Venture Managers are responsible for supporting CDL site operations; focusing on venture recruiting, providing business development support to CDL ventures, and leading initiatives to support the growth and continuous improvement of the program. 

Responsibilities 

Recruitment & Selection: 

  • Identifies and builds relationships with centers of innovation in the local ecosystem; including Universities, venture capital funds, incubators & accelerators, and tech associations to build a strong pipeline of CDL venture applicants
  • Executes outreach strategy for the recruitment of the incoming cohort
  • Builds a pipeline of CDL prospects and works within Salesforce system to monitor and convert leads to applications
  • Assesses fit for early-stage science and engineering-based ventures that apply for the CDL program
  • Interviews companies and makes recommendations about who should be admitted to the program

Venture Management:

  • Manage a subset of ventures in the stream in accordance with CDL-Global Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Works with ventures to complete venture documentation (Venture Summaries, Venture updates, Financing Memos, etc.) 
  • Supports ventures through the program to ensure optimal success

CDL Operations:

  • Draft Moderator Notes and support the moderators with the preparation for sessions
  • Support the Stream Lead on executing CDL program strategy and future opportunities for program development, and specialized stream programs and education modules
  • Support CDL administrative and logistical activities for sessions and events as required

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelors’ Degree, STEM degree or technology background preferred
  • Master of Business Administration or BCom degree in progress or completed an asset
  • Work experience working with startups, technology companies, or venture capital is an asset
  • Strong analytical ability and understanding of business models and drivers of success in startups across several verticals
  • Ability to analyze and systematically evaluate ventures – proficiency with financial modeling, conducting market analysis, and strategic planning is an asset
  • Experience and confidence working with high performing teams and multiple stakeholders
  • Entrepreneurial and highly motivated with a strong interest in startups and venture capital
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Passion to consistently meet or exceed performance objectives
  • Strong, team-oriented work ethic with a willingness to work independently and autonomously
  • Highly organized with strong project management experience
